Delhi Capitals Climb to the Top with Dominant Win Over Mumbai Indians in WPL 2025

  • Delhi Capitals Crush Mumbai Indians by Nine Wickets
    • Delhi Capitals secured a dominant nine-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, moving to the top of the WPL 2025 standings.
    • The win was set up by an exceptional bowling performance from Jess Jonassen, who claimed a three-wicket haul, her sixth in WPL history.
  • Mumbai Indians’ Struggles with the Bat
    • Mumbai Indians were restricted to just 123/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
    • Key wickets fell during the PowerPlay and the middle overs as Shikha Pandey, Annabel Sutherland, and Jess Jonassen provided critical breakthroughs.
    • Harmanpreet Kaur (22) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (21) briefly steadied the innings, but Mumbai couldn’t recover from a collapse, losing 5 wickets for just 23 runs.
  • Jess Jonassen’s Impactful Bowling
    • Jonassen dismissed Harmanpreet Kaur with an arm ball and followed up by taking the crucial wicket of Sciver-Brunt with a flighted delivery.
    • Minnu Mani played a key role as well, taking two wickets in a single over, including a spectacular catch by Sutherland to dismiss Amelia Kerr.
  • Delhi Capitals’ Dominant Run Chase
    • Chasing a modest total of 124, Delhi Capitals got off to a blazing start with a 85-run opening partnership between Meg Lanning (60* off 49) and Shafali Verma (43 off 28).
    • Lanning and Verma dominated from the outset, with Lanning hitting two boundaries off the first over and Verma smashing two sixes in a brilliant 16-run over.
    • By the end of the PowerPlay, Delhi Capitals had already put up 57 runs, with their opening stand marking their 11th 50-run partnership (the most in WPL history).
    • Verma fell in the 10th over, but Lanning carried her team home with an unbeaten 60*, finishing off the chase in 14.3 overs.
  • Result:
    • Mumbai Indians: 123/9 in 20 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 22; Jess Jonassen 3-25, Minnu Mani 3-17)
    • Delhi Capitals: 124/1 in 14.3 overs (Meg Lanning 60*, Shafali Verma 43; Amanjot Kaur 1-12)
    • Delhi Capitals won by nine wickets.
