In a landmark announcement, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London will host the final of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 12 to July 5, 2026, culminating in the final at Lord’s on July 5.
Lord’s, often referred to as the “Home of Cricket,” has been selected as one of seven venues across England and Wales to stage matches during the tournament. The other venues include Old Trafford (Manchester), Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), The Oval (London), Hampshire Bowl (Southampton), and Bristol County Ground.
This selection marks a significant moment for women’s cricket, as Lord’s previously hosted the memorable 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup final, where England triumphed over India in a sold-out match.
The 2026 edition will see an expansion from previous tournaments, featuring 12 teams instead of 10, providing more opportunities for emerging cricketing nations to participate on the world stage.
Eight teams have already secured their spots for the 2026 tournament:
The remaining four spots will be determined through a global qualifying tournament in 2025.
Richard Gould, ECB Chief Executive Officer, expressed his enthusiasm:
“It is one of the finest venues in world cricket and every cricketer dreams of being part of occasions like a World Cup final at Lord’s. This will be the biggest women’s cricket event ever staged in England and Wales and is undoubtedly … .”
Jay Shah, ICC Chair, highlighted the significance:
Hosting the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup is part of the ECB’s broader strategy to promote and develop women’s and girls’ cricket across the UK. The tournament aims to inspire a new generation of players and fans, building on the momentum from previous successes and the growing popularity of women’s sports globally.
As preparations begin for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, anticipation is building for what promises to be a landmark event in the history of women’s cricket. With matches hosted across iconic venues and the final set at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground, the tournament is poised to elevate the profile of women’s cricket to new heights.
